About The Work

This limited edition art print is titled “Candle Brother and Sister” by Otani Workshop. It is an archival pigment print with silkscreen, adding depth and a unique texture to the artwork. The image size measures approximately 13.9 inches by 12.3 inches (353 × 312 mm), and the sheet size is around 17.4 inches by 15.8 inches (441 × 400 mm). Released in 2022, the print is part of an edition of 50, with each piece signed and numbered by the artist. Edition numbers may vary from those shown in photos.

Reflecting on this work, Otani shared, “I wanted to draw light. Not what the light is illuminating, but the light itself. That is why I drew a lit candle. Many artists have painted candles in the past. Although I like Yajūrō Takashima’s painting of a single candle, I was excited to learn that Gerhard Richter had also painted candles too. I am a younger brother with an older sister. Thus the title of this piece. My two children too, the older one is the sister and the younger one is the brother; I wanted to project the brilliance of life through the breath of interaction between two siblings.”
